Bosanka competition
Competition for a spatial-program design for the undeveloped part of the Bosanka settlement in Dubrovnik, awarded 1st placeThe competition was announced in January of 2011, with the objective of securing the highest quality spatial-program design for the undeveloped part of the Bosanka settlement as a conceptual and expert foundation for the development of the Urban Development Plan (UDP).
The area included in the competition has a surface of approximately 10ha and is located in Žarkovica, above Dubrovnik, southeast of the existing Bosanka settlement. The accommodation of some 90 mixed-function buildings, mostly residential (M11), on a very steep terrain (with up to 25m of difference in height at the steepest part) with a complex ownership structure (19 owners) needed to be planned.The area is, in accordance with the City of Dubrovnik’s General Urban Plan, a highly valuable district and natural landscape, and the visual exposure of the zone additionally contributed to the complexity of the project.
From the professional jury’s explanation:
“The aim is for the quality of the newly planned settlementto be achieved in the proposed urban planning concept through an affirmation of the interrelation between the existing vegetation and fields which become the foundation for creating public park areas. They become places towards which groups of houses are directed, defining the character of the public space, where a reverse reaction is created whereby the public space improves the quality of the residential ambient.”
